Coming this summer, Pax Athletica hopes turn interactive gaming on its head. Pax Athletica will merge sports culture with videogaming in a brand new way. Players will assume the persona of a figure from history and attempt to match or surpass their storied athletic feats through an interactive track-and-field event comprised of seven events from international sports history. The idea is to create a game that is at once entertaining and culturally relevant. PA will launch in August on Verizon phones. The project is the work of Tricycle NYC, a partnership between Cashmere Games, Ham & Pixel and Idealogue to create next generation mobile entertainment with publisher, Reaxion.

This summer Athens plays host to the 2004 summer Olympic Games. If, that is, the Greeks can put aside two millennia of disorganization and pull the damn thing off. It's probably too much to expect a latter-day Leni Riefenstahl to mark the event with a stunning piece of filmmaking - nor, ideologically, would you necessarily wish for that - but if you have a cell phone and Verizon service, come August you can enjoy a smart, literate piece of independent game making to while away the time between important calls.
